Aerospace for Good?

Big Skies. Bigger Purpose.

If you are a Year 11 student in Canterbury, New Zealand and you are curious about the future, innovation, enterprise, technology, community or solving real-world problems, Aerospace for Good could be for you.

This programme explores how aerospace connects with wider ecosystems - from climate action, emergency response and environmental monitoring to data, design, business, infrastructure and new opportunities for Aotearoa.

You do not need aerospace experience. You just need curiosity, commitment, an open mind and a willingness to work with others.

Aerospace for Good is about more than rockets and runways. It is about developing the mindset to see possibilities, connect ideas, and use STEM innovation to make a positive difference.

  • Aerospace for Good is a future-focused learning programme for Year 11 students across Canterbury.

Using aerospace as the context, students will explore innovation, emerging technologies, systems thinking, regenerative ecosystems, leadership, and future pathways. The programme helps young people see that aerospace is not just about rockets, satellites, engineering, or space - it is also about how advanced technologies can improve life here on Earth.

From climate monitoring and disaster response to environmental protection, connectivity, navigation, agriculture, emergency communications, and understanding our changing planet, aerospace has an important role to play in shaping better futures.

  • This programme is for curious Year 11 students from a wide range of backgrounds, strengths, and interests.

Students do not need to already see themselves as “aerospace students” or “STEM students.” Aerospace for Good is designed to show the wider ecosystem around aerospace - including science, technology, design, enterprise, sustainability, ethics, policy, storytelling, leadership, community impact, and systems thinking.

It is especially suited to young people who are interested in how the world works, how futures are shaped, and how they might contribute to solving real problems in meaningful ways.

  • Aerospace for Good is about helping young people seeing better futures.

Canterbury has a growing aerospace ecosystem, but many young people may not yet see how they connect to it, where they belong within it, or how their strengths could contribute to what is being built. This programme makes those pathways more visible by connecting students to the people, places, organisations, technologies, and challenges shaping the future of our region.

The future of aerospace will need more than technical capability. It will need diverse thinkers who can collaborate, ask better questions, understand complex systems, and consider the impact of decisions on people, communities, ecosystems, and the planet.

At its heart, this programme asks:

How can aerospace improve life on Earth - and help young people see futures for themselves here in Ōtautahi, Canterbury, and Aotearoa?
